A magnitude-4.0 earthquake has struck a Northern California area that is home to a number of geothermal power plants.
The U.S. Geological Survey says the temblor struck at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and was centered a mile north of The Geysers and 25 miles northwest of Santa Rosa.
USGS says it is too early to say whether the quake was caused by the power plant activity, where wastewater is shot deep beneath the earth and heated by magma, creating steam for power.
Residents in the area near the plants have complained that the practice is to blame for the many quakes that shake their homes.
There have been no reports of injury or damage.
